Short Synopsis
Young Ela, trapped by the pandemic lockdown, peers out her window, unveiling the hidden lives of her neighbors – especially that of a mysterious boy. As a silent crisis unfolds, Ela’s imagination becomes her secret weapon and when he needs help, she tries to reach him despite the distance.
Director’s Biography
Born in Bucharest/Romania, Alina studied at the Institute of Theatre and Film Art in Bucharest, then at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen in München. She works as a director, producer and editor for documentaries and fiction in Munich, Paris and Bucharest.
Director’s statement
The film navigates the societal issues brought to the forefront by the pandemic, including domestic violence and the increasing cases of child and teen suicides. It paints a sensitive and non-judgmental portrait of these struggles, all seen through Ela’s innocent and compassionate eyes. Her imaginative world serves as a beacon of solace and resilience in the midst of adversity.
“across” captures the essence of the pandemic era, where fear and uncertainty loom large but also where the resilience and innocence of a child’s spirit offer hope and the potential for collective healing.
