Synopsis
On the set of a low-budget indie SF production, the actress revolts against the director when she is told to swim in contaminated water.
Director’s Biography
Sebastian Mihăilescu is a Romanian writer, director, and producer. Initially studying computer science, he later followed his passion for film, studying film directing at the University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest.
His first feature film, “MAMMALIA” (2023), had its World Premiere at the Berlinale Forum, marking an important step in his career. Mihailescu also made a contribution to documentary filmmaking with his hybrid, “YOU ARE CEAUSESCU TO ME” (2021), which received recognition and awards at several film festivals, including Ji.hlava IFF and the Transilvania International Film Festival.
In 2016, Mihăilescu’s short film, “OLD LUXURIOUS FLAT LOCATED IN AN ULTRA-CENTRAL NEIGHBORHOOD,” was featured in the Pardi di Domani Competition at the Locarno International Film Festival.
Mihăilescu is known for his innovative approach to film, often exploring beyond traditional narrative forms to express his ideas more freely.
Director’s statement
I aim to challenge common stereotypes in film. I question the norms and refuse to be confined to an apartment setting, despite limited funds. I’m committed to my vision, tackling challenges through creative staging and settings. I focus on presenting deep themes in a relatable way. I make films I’d watch—blends of genres. They’re like art collages, merging reality with the fantastical, leading viewers into new worlds.
